Student Stories
Postgraduates who have used our approach successfully
This new section shares stories of a number of students who have been successful with raising charity funding to support their studies. Although this whole website is written by people who succeeded in winning grants via our unique approach, it's nice to be able to connect this advice tangibly to real students who share their stories of how they did it! Some of our featured postgraduates are studying Masters, some PhDs. Some had partial funding, and others none at all. Some may have had a full scholarship and gained extra funding from alternative bodies to support their research and conference costs. You'll see that each went about finding and applying slightly differently, but you'll notice some common experiences and strategies if you read a few of the stories. These are the very same as those we describe on the Alternative Guide to Postgraduate Funding. As well as being useful, we that these stories help inspire you to have a go yourself!Won funding from charities? Tell us your story and gain a guaranteed £50 Award. Also, enter our Prize Draw for £500! We are always interested to hear from students who have succeeded in gaining funding from charities and trusts, and if you are in that category, we'd love to hear from you. If you have won two or more awards from charities, and would be happy for a short story like those below to appear on this site, then let us know! We pay £50 for each profile! . Initially please just email us a short summary of how many awards you have won, from where, your course, and your university. Then we will decide whether to ask you to write the full story, which is when you'll receive the award.
In addition, we also run a Prize Draw each year. To enter the Prize Draw, you only need to have won a single grant from an alternative funding. Each year we have a top prize of £500 and three prizes of £100. Enter the Prize Draw here. Remember, you can enter both the Prize Draw and submit a Student Story!
